The 2017-18 NBA Season starts on Tuesday, 17 October and promises to be one of the most exciting in recent years.
With an unprecedented player movement, the off season marked the first time in league history that seven players selected to the All-Star Game changed teams. Some of the biggest movements included Carmelo Anthony (from New York Knicks to Oklahoma City Thunder), Jimmy Butler (from Chicago Bulls to Minnesota Timberwolves), Kyrie Irving (from Cleveland Cavaliers to Boston Celtics), Paul George (from Indiana Pacers to Oklahoma City Thunder), Chris Paul (from LA Clippers to Houston Rockets), Dwyane Wade (from Chicago Bulls to Cleveland Cavaliers) and Derrick Rose (from New York Knicks to Cleveland Cavaliers).
Reigning champions, Golden State Warriors, return largely intact as they seek a fourth consecutive NBA Finals appearance. They made NBA history in June with an unprecedented 16-1 run in the Playoffs and they remain one of the favourites to raise the Larry O’Brien Trophy next year.
Meanwhile, in the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers will look to face the Warriors for the fourth consecutive time in NBA Finals. With healthy Dwyane Wade and Derrick Rose joining LeBron James and company, they will be determined to be back in The Finals next June. Should this happen, it would be James’ eighth consecutive and ninth overall NBA Finals appearance. LeBron James is also poised to become the seventh player in NBA history to score 30,000 career points and will want to join his predecessors: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain and Dirk Nowitzki.
