The respected 90s hip-hop brand FUBU has linked up with PUMA to release an upcoming capsule collection headlined by the famed PUMA Suede silhouette.
Let us take you back to FUBU days
An acronym that stands for “For Us By Us,” FUBU was created to specifically target young African-American consumers. In 1992, that is 26 years back! Daymond John together with his childhood friends Keith Perrin, J. Alexander Martin and Carl Brown, created the clothing as a response to high-profile fashion brands expressing they didn’t want to market their collections to ethnic audiences. Daymond mortgaged his home for $100,000 turning half of the house into a factory and the other half into living space for “TEAM FUBU”.
Their philosophy was to make clothing for the consumer by the consumer. They turned their dream into a reality and today the businesses they founded over the years are still an active part of the four partners lives.
The earliest collection consisted of a small line of tops and hats with the FUBU logo. By 1995, an extensive sportswear line was designed and produced by FUBU, using raw materials imported from around the world. With the success of the collection, distributors and investors came calling. To date, over 5,000 stores have carried the FUBU collection and more than $6 billion in merchandise has been sold at retail.
Upcoming Collaboration with PUMA
The collection dubbed “Suede 50 Pack” pays tribute the iconic Fubu tracksuits and the forever fresh Suede.
The PUMA x Fubu Classic Suede sneaker features a Black velour upper and Red velour lining. Red velour piping outlines the Black Formstripe and sits atop a thick, Black rubber sole with a Red outsole for a requisite dash of flavour. Gold accents provide that extra swagger while a commemorative Suede 50 logo is featured in the tongue. The sneaker comes with three sets of laces (Black, Red, White).
The PUMA suede is accompanied by a full apparel collection that honours Fubu’s classic tracksuits with pants, jackets, and tees.
Look out for the FUBU x PUMA ‘Suede 50 Pack’ Capsule Collection to release on Friday, 26 January 2018 at PUMA select stores (Joburg & Cape Town) also at XTrend Stores.
