Beyoncé and Jay Z surprised their fans with ‘On the Run II’ tour announcement on Monday morning.
The announcement was accompanied by a black and white poster showing both Bey and Jay riding on a motorbike-mounted with a bull-horned skull.
The poster was inspired by a 1973 Senegalese drama film ‘Touki Bouki.’ The film is about two lovers who are tired of life in Senegal, and therefore they steal money and clothing from the wealthy and then head to Paris for a new life.
Winner of the FIPRESCI Critics Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973, among other awards, Touki Bouki is widely considered a classic of world cinema, regularly appearing on lists like Sight & Sound’s 100 Greatest Films Of All Time and Empire’s 100 Best Films Of World Cinema.
It’s still a bit of a puzzle to relate what the original poster means for the ‘On the Run II’ tour.
