AUDITIONS: for ‘Amazing Voices’ start this week in Cape Town, Durban and Joburg

South Africans can look forward to Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices auditions happening in Cape Town, Durban and Joburg from this week.

Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices, a pan-African singing competition, will premiere on 12 January 2020, with contestants from nine African cities – Accra, Kumasi, Mombasa, Nairobi, Bulawayo, Harare, Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg, – squaring off against each other for the grand prize of $100 000 (around R1.5 million). The show will run for 13 weeks until 05 April 2020.

The show will seek to unearth unsigned music groups across three genres – gospel, pop and rhythm and blues (R&B) with amazing voices.

Amazing Voices will be in our shores to give upcoming singers a chance to audition.

South Africa: 

  • Cape Town at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (Belville Campus) – 22 and 23 October 2019 (08:00 – 15:00)
  • Durban at Durban Conference Centre (Beach Road)  – 25 and 26 October 2019 (08:00 – 15:00)
  • Johannesburg at Joburg Theatre – 28 and 29 October 2019 (08:00 – 15:00)




The show will see celebrity selectors from each of the four countries selecting three groups from each genre after mass auditions to steer them through the elimination round before the winning group is chosen.

The show will kick-off with mass auditions then shortlisted groups will advance to the home ground battle, which will be the elimination stage. After the elimination phase, three groups will advance to the grand stage where they will sing it out to win the main prize, in Johannesburg.

The show will be broadcast on Mzansi Magic, Mzansi Wethu, Africa Magic, Maisha Magic East and Zambezi Magic at 18:00 Kenyan time and 17:00 South African time.
