Since we are all under the lockdown – it might be a perfect time to catch up on something interesting, so we have put together a list of interesting sneaker doccies to watch, more especially if you would like to learn something new.

Just for Kicks (2005)

A 2005  documentary film about the sneaker phenomena and history. It includes self-confessed “sneakerheads” like Grandmaster Caz, Reverend Run, and Missy Elliott. It tells the story of the Nike Air Force Ones, which are called “Uptowns” in New York, and the beginning of Air Jordans. The documentary also tells the story of how hip-hop pioneers DJ Run, Jam Master Jay, and DMC had everyone wearing Adidas Superstars with their song “My Adidas”.

Bubbleheads of Cape Town

Starring Youngsta CPT, Sneaker Cartel’s Rolo Rozay, Yaya Jeff of Unwanted Kicks, Zaid Osman, Justin ‘Bubble Koppe’ Ronne, and more, the documentary focuses on Cape Flats bubbleheads and their obsession about the takkies, and how the ‘bubbles’ are a big deal in Cape Town.

Sonny Vaccaro is the controversial figure at the center of the 30 for 30 film “Sole Man”. The documentary explores the role Vaccaro played in building the sneaker industry by signing players like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and (almost) LeBron James to multimillion-dollar sneaker deals.
