Following all the interest in the Oprah series finale which aired in the US last week, SABC3 has announced that the channel will air Oprah’s final three shows in a special before the season ends here.
The 25th season will continue in it’s usual timeslot of weekdays at 17h30 and the three-part special will run concurrently, starting on Thursday 30 June at 19h30.
Tom Cruise and Tom Hanks opened the show. Madonna also appeared on stage and said to Oprah, “You look surprised!”
Celebs who will be seen in the second part of the episode are: Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, Stevie Wonder, Jerry Seinfeld, Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, Rosie O’Donnell, Simon Cowell, Maya Angelou, Gayle King, Nate Berkus, Tyler Perry, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, Usher and even Maria Shriver.
Oprah’s very final episode aired in the US last Wednesday (25 May) and was preceded by a two-part farewell special.
SABC3 will be airing these as follows:
30 June at 19h30: Part 1 of the farewell special
7 July at 19h30: Part 2 of the farewell special
14 July at 19h30: The finale episode
The farewell special was recorded at the United Center in Chicago (an indoor sports centre) for a live audience of 13 000 guests. It features celebrity guests performing and talking about what the show has meant to them over the years.
All three of the episodes will be rebroadcast in the 17h30 timelsot once the season reaches the end here later in the year.
