For the third year running the prestigious Miss Teen Soweto beauty pageant will take centre stage during the Soweto Festival Expo in Nasrec.

Twenty teenage girls from all areas of Soweto have already been selected as finalists in the competition. They will compete for a grand pot of R10 000, among other exciting prizes.
The brainchild of Basic Jonathan Productions and Management, the beauty pageant is aimed at “giving 20 rough diamonds the experience of being groomed and moulded into radiant future leaders,” according to Jonathan Ramotsei.
“If we look at the history of beauty pageants in Soweto, they have produced iconic women, and the Miss Teen Soweto pageant promises to add to this breed,” he adds. “The founders of this project aim to inspire young souls by using such platforms to create confident women of tomorrow.”
The pageant has grown from humble beginnings in 2009 and has always been well supported by the youth of Soweto. In 2009 Chiawelo-born Khatutshelo Mphapela was crowned the inaugural Miss Teen Soweto at an event at the historic Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown. In 2010 Buhle Sithole of Meadowlands scooped the title at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto Campus.
Miss Teen Soweto takes place on 24 September at the festival.
