Entries for the 2012 MTN Radio Awards officially opened this week and stations, presenters and producers who want to enter can visit the website www.mtnradioawards.com. Entry is free.

This is the third edition of the prestigious awards programme and organizers believe it will be the biggest to date.
In year one over 200 entries were received; year two saw that number double and as a nationwide radio station entries road show continues, its believed that number will double once again. Winners will be announced at a massive industry gala dinner in Johannesburg on the 14th of April.
MTN’s Chief Ayobaness Officer, Serame Taukobong is urging stations to get their entries in as soon as possible and ideally before the festive season break. “We remain committed to promoting the medium of radio and rewarding excellence and would like to wish all stations well in their endeavours.”
MTN Radio Awards Chief Operating Officer Taryn Westoby is excited that the entry process is less tedious than last year. “We’ve streamlined the entry process considerably and once prospective entrants have logged in and registered, it’s a simple case of uploading the audio and pressing send.”
From early next year over 20 judges will be listening to submissions that were broadcast in the calendar year 2011. This year judges will be recruited from within the industry itself and the full panel will be announced in the next few weeks.
Several new categories have also been introduced for the 2012 programme including best afternoon drive show and afternoon drive presenter; best weekend show; best programme innovation (on air ideas that take broadcasting into a new dimension) and best radio concept (a stand-alone piece of programming in any genre that makes for compelling listening).
And for the first time a sub-category for the best campus radio station has also been included. Tickets for the April 14 event at the Sandton Convention Centre are also on sale via the website www.mtnradioawards.com.
A percentage of the ticket sales will be used to fund a bursary for a future radio star. More entrants to the MTN Radio Hall of Fame will also be announced and nominations can be submitted on www.mtnradioawards.com or sent to Taryn Westoby at taryn@mtnradioawards.co.za
