Trevor Gumbi’s “Nearly Done” will hit you hard in the head, heart and funny bone
Controversial big-mouth and comedian Trevor Gumbi is set to storm The Lyric Theatre stage at Gold Reef City Casino with his first ever one-man stand-up show, Nearly Done, in March this year. Nearly Done is his big bad return to the live comedy battlefield, in a show that is also being filmed as a television special by Trevor’s home channel, Mzansi Magic.
The mischievous and outrageous TV celebrity and stand-up comic is best known to South Africans as the host, head scriptwriter and voice-over artist of Mzansi Magic’s hit celebrity gossip show Headline, which flights every Thursday at 20h30 with a Saturday morning repeat. He has also had people laughing at several major comedy events in the country, including performing at Oppikoppi, Rocking the daisies, King-size comedy jams, Blacks Only, Laugh out Loud and Arts Alive comedy festival.
“Nearly Done” is a hit show – it will hit you hard on the head, the heart, and probably in the crotch for good measure. “I want to do something special, something people will be glad they saw, and will never forget,” says the Mzansi Magic presenter of his one-man show.
Trevor has teamed up with John Vlismas’ Whacked: Special Project to create a show that will include elements not often seen in local live stage productions. “We have a history, me and Gumbi,”
says John Vlismas.
“We’ve done lots of work together, and I was always happy to know that there was a really dark, edgy man with a lot of talent out there.
“Trevor has a crazy honesty, and discusses things that I’m sure everyone wants to, but never would. Couple that with a furious intelligence and a filthy mouth – and you have my favorite kind of anti-hero.”
