South African local content pay-TV channel Mzansi Magic has announced that the channel’s first telenovela Inkaba is now available to audiences in Sub-Saharan Africa, including countries such as Angola, Botswana, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Mozambique and Uganda.
Since launching on 19 March on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 107) in the Monday to Thursday 8.30pm timeslot, Inkaba has captured the attention of South African audiences and extended its reach to AfricaMagic Entertainment on Monday 16 April 2012. The show will run until next year April, with a broadcast on Mondays to Thursdays at 10pm CAT.
According to Lebone Maema, channel head: Mzansi Magic, Inkaba is the biggest venture the channel has undertaken to date. “In less than two years, Mzansi Magic has embarked on several exciting projects, but nothing matches Inkaba. We are extremely proud of our groundbreaking proudly South African telenovela. It’s a story with depth, exploring our heritage, customs, vernacular and current life challenges in an unprecedented, highly entertaining way.”
“Inkaba has secured a substantial audience since its launch. This not only shows that people are interested on our offering but they are interested in the story we are telling, the fashion and our interesting characters” says Maema.
Inkaba has set a platform for conversation on social media networks and continues to encourage discussion about the current trends.
Given Inkaba’s relevant characters such as Pascal (Richard Lukunku) and Fumi (Weza Solange), the show’s appeal is pan African, creating audience demand in countries like Angola and Nigeria.
