From the creator and producers of the multi-award winning comedy, City Ses’la, SABC1 presents the spin-off show, Ses Top La, a 13-part 24-minute comedy series that will start airing on the channel on Friday, 1 June at 19:00.
The laughter continues with ghettolicious Phumzile (played by Busi Lurayi) and Themba (played by Mandla N). The couple has now moved up from the city to the greener pastures of Sandton, where they meet a whole new set of crazy characters that become a part of their new lives.
“SABC1 considers local comedy as a key component to its programming. It’s in line with this view that the channel deliberated on how to grow the popularity of the award-winning comedy series, City Ses’la, and a new exciting proposition was born. Most of the cast of Ses Top La are brand-new to SABC1 and we are sure to have all of Mzansi rolling with wholesome laughter come Friday evenings,” says Dichaba Phalatse, SABC1’s portfolio marketing manager responsible for entertainment.
Packed to the brim with the same side-splitting, award-winning humour from City Ses’la, Ses Top La sees the couple having to grow up without the safety net of their former friends, navigate their way through all the ups and downs of married life, owning an up-market apartment, ‘keep up with the Jones’ and everything in between. The question is: can they afford the high life?
Executive producer Tumi Masemola says, “Ses Top La is a growth fromCity Ses’La in the same comedy genre. We hope that SABC1 viewers will find the storylines and the characters interesting, humorous and relatable and will most importantly enjoy the show.”
The supporting cast includes Trevor Gumbi as the apartment’s scheming security guard, Gideon; Lindiwe Ndlovu as Buseje, the cleaning lady from Malawi; and Warren Masemola as Phumi’s fabulous sidekick, Thoko Chanel.
