South Africa’s biggest broadcaster, SABC1 has announced that it has acquired the popularTropika Island of Treasure franchise.

“SABC1 aims to bring viewers only the best in South African entertainment and we are very proud to add Tropika Island of Treasure 5 to our line-up,” says Leo Manne, general manager, SABC1. “It is fitting that this country’s leading television brand be the new home of such a highly successful property like TIOT to make this exciting programme even bigger.”

The location-based reality series will be on SABC1 screens nationwide from February to April 2013. “TIOT 5 marks five years of successful programming that has pioneered advertising funded programming in Africa. We are proud of this juggernaut campaign which continues to break new ground in innovative ways both in television and advertising,” adds Stimulii executive producer Samantha Moon.

“Tropika prides itself on being at the forefront of consumer’s needs and desires, and the coupling of Tropika and SABC1 – both hot lifestyle properties – will no doubt deliver on captivating and enthralling television for South Africans,” says Asheen Dayal, brand manager for Tropika Group.
