Educational programmes Intersexions, Brothers for Life and Siyayinqoba Beat It! win at 2013 AfriComNet Awards.
This week in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania three SABC Education programmes received awards at the AfriComNet 2013 awards.
Pontsho Makhetha, acting general manager at SABC Education received the awards, she says “we are honoured to receive awards for Intersexions, Brothers for Life and Siyayinqoba Beat It! The AfriComNet awards recognise outstanding contributions made by individuals and organizations that strengthen strategic communication as a necessary tool for health and development”.
Intersexions broadcast on SABC1 and 12 radio stations and supported by outreach and social network activities won best mass media project. Brothers for Life received the best multichannel award for a partnership on radio. Siyayinqoba, Beat It! broadcast on SABC1 and 12 radio stations was 1st runner up in the media category.
Intersexions, produced by Curious Pictures and Ants Multimedia in partnership with Johns Hopkins Health and Education South Africa (JHHESA) and SABC Education, and funded by USAID and PEPFAR, was an instant hit with audiences when it was first broadcast in late 2010. It was rebroadcast in 2011.
Brothers for Life is a collaborative effort by the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), the Department of Health, USAID/PEPFAR, Johns Hopkins Health and Education in South Africa (JHHESA), Sonke Gender Justice, the United Nations System in South Africa and over 100 other civil society partners working in the field of HIV prevention and health.
