YFM, SA’s biggest urban radio station, officially announced their 2013 line-up earlier this week. A few changes have been made to their line-up including DJ Sabby’s shift from the weekend midnight shows to weekend breakfast shows on Saturday and Sunday from 09:00 – 12:00.
Sabelo Mtshali, better known as DJ Sabby, is no stranger to radio. DJ Sabby started his radio career in 2009 where he featured on weekend mornings and weekday nights on PRIMEDIA’s Cape Town based commercial station, 94.5 KFM, after which he moved to 94.7 Highveld Stereo where he briefly hosted the late graveyard slot on weekends.
The natural next move for DJ Sabby was to go to YFM. He started off at YFM in 2010 when he enrolled in the YFM Y-Academy programme. After 6 months of the intensive programme he started off doing daily traffic on the station’s prime shows in the afternoon. In 2012 DJ Sabby was awarded his first radio show on YFM, The Adrenaline Rush, on weekends between 12:00 – 03:00.
DJ Sabby’s new weekend breakfast show comes as a well-deserved move.
“I am super excited about this move to 9am-12pm on the new line up. It also feels great to know that management has been listening and they believe in my talent to give me such a big slot. The history of this slot on YFM has hosted some big DJ’s and I’m thrilled to be part of that legacy of DJ’s who have done it. The show will be called “The Weekend Shake Up” and that is exactly what it will be, shaking the night away and keeping one amped about the day. Expect a lot of life and energy on the show not forgetting the kick ass music. The weekend officially has a starting point and that is what I’ll do for Yires” expressed DJ Sabby after the announcement.
