EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: with Major League ‘Bandile and Banele’

• Where were you born? Where did you grow up?
– Born in Massachusetts Boston grew up in Johannesburg South Africa.

• What influenced the name “Major League”?, somehow related to Baseball League?
– We were the first blacks to play provincial baseball in the country, so that moment in our lives has been one of the most special so we decided to call ours Major League which comes from Major League Baseball.

• How did you get into music / DJing, and why both of you?
– Parents has always loved music, grew up around the best musicians out of this country e.g. Hugh Masekela, Caiphus Semenya, Letta Mbuli and the list goes on, plus my older was a rap artists so we go into hip hop at a very young age and enjoyed very much. So when we finished high school we decided to deejay for a hobby but then we took it more serious because of the income it brought to us.

• Was there a moment that made you both fall in love with hip-hop music?
– Not really can’t remember one.

• Compared to when you guys first started out, what are your family and extended family’s reaction to where “Major League” stands today?
– They very happy but they weren’t too impressed they thought we were taking our hobby to seriously at first. Now they happy for us.

• What’s your take on local hip-hop scene?
– Our take about the SA hip hop scene is that it is going this year hip hop won best album of the year so we are very happy but it is still growing.

 

 

• Do you have any favourite/special venue that you play at?
– Yea we do, it’s at Cappello Buzz fourways

• What makes Major League unique from other DJs?
– We very versatile plus we play we percussions and we are twins

• How is Banele different from Bandile?
– Banele is more calm and lovely, bandile is all about his work and craft to success. He pushes the team.

• Does both of you get on decks, or do you play separately?
– We both do at times, most of the time Bandile percussions and Banele is on the decks

• Do you guys have girlfriends?
– No we don’t sorry.

• What advice would you give to aspiring Local DJ’s like yourselves?
– We hard but networking is the most important remember that

• Anything that you guys do besides music/djing?
– We starting up our own media company called GoodTyms Media

• What do you think about digital DJ setups like Serato, Traktor, Ableton? Do you use them?
– They are very user friendly when places/gigs we dj at don’t have the right cdjs to use flashes.

• What’s the craziest thing that has happened to you while behind the decks?
– A girl dancing at Latinova club pulled our laptop down while we were deejaying

• What projects are you currently working on and What can we look forward to for the remaining months 2013?
– Our first single it should be coming soon

• BANDILE:


• If you had a time machine what year would you go back to and why?
– spending time with my Dad before he passed away.

• Ever been so wasted while Dj’ing?
– Yea I have, unfortunately.

• What is the last book you read?
– Empire State of mind.

• BANELE:

• If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional. with whom would it be?
– Puff Daddy to understand his productivity.

• How would you explain Twitter and Facebook in three sentences to your 5-year old nephew?
– Its chatting tool.

• If you won R20 million in the lottery, what would you do with the money?
– Invest it in property development

• Anything else you want to say? Any shouts?
– Shout out to everyone who is contributing to the Major league brand , DreamTeamTalent , Sheila Afari, Yo Mzansi, On air entertainment, Cappellos Buzz nd etc.
