Radio and TV personality Kuli Roberts and partner Sylvester Sefotlhelo is the second couple to be eliminated on Strictly Come Dancing on SABC3 as they failed to convince the judges following the dreaded dance off against TV presenter Graeme Richards and Lindsey Muckle.
The curtain finally came down on Kuli Roberts and Sylvester Sefotlhelo’s stay in the competition as they failed to convince the judges following the dreaded dance off against TV presenter Graeme Richards and Lindsey Muckle.
Having survived last week’s dance off, Kuli Roberts and Sylvester Sefotlhelo had to put on a much improved showing with their Rumba. The judges may have been impressed by the change in attitude but their lack of technique let them down, again.
Tonight saw the couples take on a variety of dances, and for the first time this season, the bouncy Jive with its myriad kicks took its bow. Inspired by African – Americans, the Jive is a lively and uninhibited variation of Swing dance. Also performed tonight were the popular Foxtrot and Rumba as well as the technical Viennese Waltz.
Early pacesetters Lalla Hirayama and Grant Esterhuizen followed up their impressive showing from last week with a Foxtrot that divided the judges’ opinions, but was none the less well scored.
With the viewer voting lines open, favourites Thapelo Mokoena and Hayley Bennet took to the ballroom floor with a jailhouse inspired Jive that oozed of creativity.
Having missed last week due to illness, Mpho Popps and Nombulelo Hlathi showed no rust by putting on a flavourful, spirited and fun Jive that bowled the judges over.
The consistent, if not very flashy duo of Jay Antsey and Tsholo Moholwane gave a rendition of the Foxtrot that lived up to their steady nature but the judges are beginning to demand a bit more sizzle from them.
Dark horses for the title couple Zakeeya Patel and Ryan Hammond blew the judges away with a solid and magnificent performance and received the first nine from the judges this season. They are ‘the full package’ said the judges.
Graeme Richards and Lindsey Muckle have certainly not lost any of their energy, their Viennese Waltz performance tonight was not their best performance so far in the competition, and the judges certainly let them know this.
Closing off the evening was Damon Kalvari and Hayley Hammond hoping to further impress the judges and viewers but their muddled and out of tune routine received the expected backlash from the judging panel.
Connie Ferguson and Brandon Eilers did not take part this week due to a family bereavement.
The viewers certainly threw a spanner in the works tonight with their voting; only a brave betting man can predict next week’s elimination.
Strictly Come Dancing airs on SABC3 Wednesdays from 20:00 to 22:00.
