The Top 10 contestants, who will now compete over the next ten weeks to become South Africa’s next Idol, were officially announced at the State Theater in Pretoria and they are, in alphabetical order:

Idols judges Randall Abrahams, Unathi Msengana and Gareth Cliff scoured the length and breadth of the country this year to bring the 80 most promising unsigned amateur singers to Sun City this past April, where they put them through their musical paces and selected only the 16 very best for the fans’ votes.
South Africa voted for the first time last week which of the eight best guys to keep in the Top 10 and sadly that meant the end of the road for PHILIP DUBE (20) from Kempton Park, LEE-RON MALGAS (18) from Kensington in Cape Town and 16-year-old JONATHAN JOHANSEN from Glenwood in Durban.
After a thrilling concert by the Top 8 girls this past Sunday the fans cast their votes again and decided to send home AMY JONES (20) from Paarl in the Western Cape, CARLÉ VAN DEVENTER (30) from Centurion in Gauteng, and TAUNA COLLIER (26) from Morningstar in Cape Town.
Now the Idols Season 9 Spectaculars will kick off in earnest this week at the stunning 6500-seater Moreleta Park NG Church in Pretoria, when the Top 10 will perform for fans’ votes on Friday. Tickets are available now at Computicket.
