23-year old Sandile triumphed in the nationwide talent search after beating 19-year old BA student Cyprian Ndlovu (@iamcyprian) and 21 year old Wits BCom/PPE student Tsholofelo Semenya (@tsemenya) at the Grand Final taping at The Venue, Melrose Arch on Saturday night.
Sandile won a year-long contract with MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) and picked up the keys to a stylish new Citroën DS3 Cabrio worth a cool R315,000.
Starting this week, Sandile will be in the studio taping links and getting prepared to host their new weekly chart show, “The MTV Base Official SA Top 10”, which premieres on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) at 18:00 CAT on Thursday 31 October.
The decision to pick the winner was made by judges Sizwe Dhlomo, Bonang Matheba and Joey Rasdien in conjunction with MTV Base Channel Director Tim Horwood and members of the public voting online and via SMS. MTV Base VJ Nomuzi Mabena revealed the news to the stunned winner in front of his delighted friends and family.

“Sandile has been impressive throughout the whole VJ Search campaign, with his natural ability and unique flavour. The decision to pick him was cemented on the night after he demonstrated a total grasp of the skills required of an MTV Base VJ, including MC-ing in front of a live crowd, presenting to camera and creating a rapport with an artist.”
Performing at the Grand Final were AKA and Da Les, iFani and Donald while DJs Major League, Speedsta, Twins on Decks, Vigilante and Shimza got the official After Party off to a flying start.
Highlights of the Grand Final of the MTV Base VJ Search Brought To You By Citroën DS3 Cabrio including contestant challenges, artist performances and the life-changing winning moment will be broadcast on MTV Base at 17:00 CAT on 25 October.
