SABC2’s hit soapie Muvhango just upped its talent quota with the addition of a new leading man to the cast.
You may have heard stories of how an already-famous person was asked out of the blue to join the cast of a popular show. Well, there was no such luck for singer and artist Brian “Temba” Makiwane, who had to work hard to land the role of lead character, Ranthumeng on SABC 2′s flagship soapie, Muvhango.

Brian is no stranger to the acting world, having played the role of Simba in The Lion King for ten years on London’s West End. He gained popularity after the single Dominoes, off his first album, Something Better was well received. Brian’s music career took of and he won the best R&B Album award at the 2010 South African Music Awards (SAMAs).
Of his new role, Brian says he initially auditioned for the role of Tumelo, but the producers were so impressed with him that he was cast as Ranthumeng. ”I went through a lot of auditions although it was for a different role at the time. I didn’t get that role but the character of Ranthumeng had been written out. When the producers saw my audition tape, they then asked me to reprise that role,” he explains.
Filming began in October last year and even though Brian was brimming with excitement and couldn’t wait to share the good news of his role – he had to keep it to himself.
“I’m very conscious of saying things, especially online. Muvhango is a big brand and I know that they have a way of doing things. They follow a specific order and they want to break the news themselves. I managed to keep quiet about it, although I don’t know how though,” he laughs. Read More
