In celebration of South Africa’s upcoming sixth democratic election, and the involvement of political maverick Kenny Kunene in the Comedy Central Roast of Kenny Kunene Fired up by Nando’s, Comedy Central and DStv are campaigning for quality TV for all, and democratising the airwaves by opening the Roast to all their DStv Compact subscribers for the first time ever.
The Comedy Central Roast of Kenny Kunene will air for one day only on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) on DStv Compact on Monday, 28 April, at 21:00 CAT, alongside Comedy Central’s usual DStv Premium and DStv Extra audiences.
Said Evert van der Veer, Head of Comedy Central, Africa: “In opening the Roast to DStv Compact our goal is to unite the country in humour and encourage voting on the 7 May as we Roast Kenny Kunene from the newly-formed Patriotic Alliance”.
Starring “Roastee” Kenny Kunene and “Roastmaster” Jimmy Carr, The Comedy Central Roast of Kenny Kunene Fired up by Nando’s will be recorded in front of a live audience on Thursday, 3 April, at The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg. The second Comedy Central Roast in Africa will also feature “Roasters” Somizi Mhlongo, Khanyi Mbau, Dineo Ranaka, Rian van Heerden, Jack Parow, John Vlismas, Tumi Morake and PJ Powers.
To play your own part in the Roast, participate in the Comedy Central YouRoast competition and Roastmaster Jimmy Carr could be reading out your own caustic comments or lavish praise at the Roast. Just tweet your comments to Comedy Central (@ComedyCentralAF) using the hastag #RoastZA or post your suggestions on the Comedy Central Facebook wall.
