Oscar Pistorius’ brother (Carl Pistorius) is in intensive care following a car crash last night, eNCA reported.
Carl Pistorius was reportedly involved in a head-on collision just outside Modimolle in the Limpopo province.
He sustained fractures to his right forearm, leg and left foot as well as a hip injury and lacerations to his liver and heart, the report stated.
โWe have opened a case of reckless or negligent driving and the Limpopo traffic department are investigating,โ Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.
โThe information will be collated into a centralized docket that will be sent to the director of public prosecutions for a decision.โ
Paramedics had to use the jaws-of-life to free Carl Pistorius after his car collided head-on with another car on Friday night at around 8pm.
โMr Pistorius was taken to Pretoria and the other driver was taken to a local hospital last night [Friday] after they were freed,โ Mulaudzi said.
โMr Pistorius had two other occupants inside his car but they were not injured. Reports indicate that the other driver was alone, but this canโt be confirmed. Both drivers had serious injuriesโฆ we suspect internal injuries.โ
On Saturday morning, the Pistorius family said Carl was โout of dangerโ after the accident.
โCarlโs vehicle was hit head-on by another car that had swerved from the opposite side of the [N1] highway intoโฆ oncoming traffic,โ his uncle Arnold Pistorius said in a statement.
โCarl was badly hurt but we are thankful that he is out of danger. He was transferred to a hospital in Pretoria.โ
Carl Pistorius was returning from a business trip in Polokwane on Friday evening. A colleague was following him in a different car and witnessed the accident, his uncle said.
On Sunday, Mulaudzi said the investigation could still โtake a whileโ as all relevant information was being gathered into a docket. However, he added: โWe will make sure it is concluded as soon as possible.โ
Mulaudzi also refuted media reports that part of the investigation was into drunk driving.
