SABC1’s talent search show, 1’s and 2’s, has produced a worthy winner after 13 grueling but yet exciting episodes on air. The title-holder to ‘Mzansi’s #1 DJ’ goes to Ekhurhuleni’s most popular DJ and producer, 26-year-old Linda Hlatshwayo – better known around the club scene as DJ Mshega.
DJ Mshega walks away tall and proud with a sizable prize package including a record deal, DJing equipment and Music production gear valued at R250 000.
“It has been a long road that finally culminated in winning SABC1’s talent reality show, 1’s and 2’s,” says DJ Mshega. “It has been the best achievement in my career as a DJ/Producer and a very humbling experience since it was Mzansi’s masses that crowned me the very first ‘Master Of Spin’ through their votes. The exposure that I got from being on the show alone has lead to a rise in demand for production and DJing services which has lead to my travelling all around the country and some of our neighboring countries. The challenges on the show, with all the time constraints have taught me a lot about working under pressure and making the most out of what I have available. Thanks to SABC1, 1’s and 2’s, and to the people of Mzansi.”
South Africa’s music lovers should be on a serious look out for the 1’s and 2’s CD Compilation, mixed by the ‘Master of Spin’ himself – DJ Mshega, which is due for release online and in stores throughout the country from Monday, 15 December.
SABC1 introduced yet another on-screen-first in March 2014 – the brand new fast-paced, edgy and exciting new entertainment reality format 1’s and 2’s – a talent show in search of South Africa’s next superstar DJ and music producer. The show offered a number of ‘new kids on the decks’ block from all over the country an opportunity to battle it out in hope of becoming the next big thing on the turntables.
This is what Sphe ‘DJ Sphectacula’ Ngwenya (one of the judges on 1’s and 2’s) had to say about the talent search show: “Initially the highlight was just seeing the constant stream of young talent stepping up behind the decks to claim their time and spot in history because somebody in my position is always under a barrage of ‘Please Put Me On’ wherever I travel and there was finally a way that I could be involved in providing an outlet for that pressure. As the show progressed though it morphed into just seeing how much more polished the contestants became the deeper we got into the challenges. It felt like watching coal transform into the Cullinan diamond. Definitely something I would do over and over again as I’m very passionate about grooming new talent and paving the way for the next generation.”
“My overall impression about the show is that it did well in its first season, from a public reception point of view, catering for a definite need in the community and also from a television content aspect. Can’t wait to see what Season 2 will do,” concludes Ngwenya.
