TV/Radio personality , Entrepreneur – DJ Sbu is not impressed with Dial Direct!. DJ Sbu is accusing Dial Direct of using his name and brand (Mofaya) in their latest advert, reports DailySun.
Report further states:
Two weeks ago, DJ Sbu, real name Sibusiso Leope, was arrested for drunk driving, and will appear in court on 2 November.
Dial Direct created an ad – indirectly referring to the motormouth DJ for his alleged misbehaviour.
The ad states: Sbu, avoid more fire. Designated Driver Assist allows you to enjoy a night out, without spending time worrying about how you and your car will get home safely.
DJ Sbu’s lawyer has issued a letter of demand to Dial Direct.
“I highly respect Dial Direct and what they’ve done in the insurance industry,” DJ Sbu said.
“But I’m disappointed by what they have done using my trademarks in this manner,” said the DJ-cum-motivational speaker.
Warwick Scott-Rodger, Head of Dial Direct Insurance, said: “In our view, the advertisement is not an infringement on DJ Sbu’s rights. We can also confirm that DJ Sbu’s allegations that he has trademark registrations for both his name and his energy drink are, in fact, not true.
“The Advertising Standards Authority allows for certain satire, parody and humour in advertisements. In our opinion, the advert was merely a humorous take on an already well-publicised event.”
