M-Net City is making some exciting changes to its line-up to allow DStv Compact viewers to enjoy more local fare alongside a slate of top-notch international shows. From Monday 3 August, the channel will add two telenovelas, four local comedies and a local game show to its early evening weekday schedule while there will also be a special treat for mature, discerning viewers late at night.
To make space for the two highly-acclaimed telenovelas, which will be screened between 17:00 and 19:00, the talk shows The Doctors and The Jerry Springer Show will move to earlier time slots – 15:00 and 16:00 respectively from Mondays to Fridays.
In future, the 17:00 timeslot will belong to the telenovela Sparkling Girls in which three housekeepers find fame and fortune when their music goes viral, but then have to deal with a jealous and vindictive singer who will do whatever it takes to tear them apart. Thereafter, at 18:00, M-Net City will bring viewers the Brazilian series Side by Side which scooped an International Emmy Award for Best Telenovela. It explores the friendship of two women in the early 20th century in a country where the divisions of wealth, power and class still prevailed.
At 19:00 on Mondays to Thursdays, viewers will be able to time to laugh out loud with these popular local comedy shows:
Mondays – Tonight with Trevor Noah. South African comedian Trevor Noah showcases his distinctly South African sense of humour in this home-grown talk show.
Tuesdays – The Coconuts. When a a middle-class white family are miraculously turned black, chaos ensues as they deal with day-to-day South African situations.
Wednesdays– Clipz. 947 breakfast host Darren “Whackhead” Simpson takes a look at classic online stars and their internet exploits.
Thursdays – Check Coast. This hilarious series follows the lives of the staff at a local Home Affairs office, a place where you find all kinds of comical conundrums.
On Friday nights at 19:00 M-Net City viewers can enjoy the blockbuster local game show Deal or No Deal. Host Ed Jordan is surrounded by a bevy of beautiful models who carry suitcases that contain different amounts of money. Only one of them has R1 million – and it’s up to the contestants to choose the right one.
Once the children are tucked into bed, everyone who has missed out on Game of Thrones, or who would like to see the series from beginning to end, should remember to tune in for all the intrigue from the Kingdom of Westeros . Game of Thrones Season 1 to Season 5 will be screened on Mondays to Fridays at 23:00 as of Monday 3 August.
Other new series starting this August on M-Net City are the action drama NCIS: Los Angeles Season 6 (Friday, 14 August at 21:00) and the family drama The Slap Season 1 (Wednesday 19 August at 22:00). Moreover, don’t forget about the great movies on Saturday and Sunday at 18:00.
