Locally made and produced film โ€˜Ayandaโ€™, makes it as our movie of the week, as it screens in local cinemas from this coming weekend.

Directed by Sara Blecher , co-produced by Terry Pheto , the film is set in the vibrant, Afropolitan community of Johannesburgโ€™s Yeoville, Ayanda is a coming-of-age story of a twenty-one year old Afro-hipster, who embarks on a journey of self-discovery when she has to fight to save her late fatherโ€™s legacy โ€“ a motor repair shop โ€“ when it is threatened with closure. Sheโ€™s thrown into a world of greasy overalls, gender stereotypes and abandoned vintage cars once loved, now in need of a young womanโ€™s re-inventive touch to bring them back to life again.
