As promised we will be providing more education to the music industry , more espcially the business side of things. And this time we are talking royalties royalties and royalties!
The champs in South Africa’s music rights – SAMRO has filled us in another ‘Know Your Music Rights’ post. The post reveals that Performing Rights belong to the person or people who own the music. That’s music composers, lyricists or music publishers who wrote, created or produced it. They earn royalties when the music is either performed in public, or broadcast on mediums such as TV or radio. And even when it’s used in a telephone message service or played in an elevator – SAMRO makes sure that playback time is payback time.
When are royalties paid?
Members receive royalties every year through four main payouts: Non Royalty Revenue, Radio and General, Television and Films. Click here to view the distribution schedule. SAMRO pays your royalties directly into your account via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), and you definitely have to make sure you are registered with them.
Make sure you stay tuned , as we will be pushing more education for the music business!!
