The concert that can be marked as event of the century in SA Hip Hop, #FillUpTheDome by Cassper Nyovest took place this past Saturday, 31 October 2015 at TicketPro Dome.
This fireworks show was not only the best in SA Hip Hop, ,but the debut of Cassper’s plan to break records year by year. With over 20 000 people attending ,the concert brought new musical experience to the Hip Hop scene and event production.
20 000 people in crowd
The show broke records bringing a mass number of 20k people in one roof. When Cassper announced the plan months back, this brought alot of questions and doubt whether this was going to be a success and reach the number or not. Well it happened and this was the first SA Hip Hop show to fill up the Dome. And more exciting the show was supported by alot of celebs and public figures including Fikile Mbalula, Julius Malema, Oskido, DJ Sbu, David Tlale, Boity, Nhlanhla Nciza, Tol Ass Mo and more.
Performances
Maaaaan what a superficial lineup! Cassper didn’t throw-in a loooong list of performers to the stage. The lineup only had few artists who are close with Cassper;
– L-Tido who was the first to join Cassper on stage, performing a collabo then ‘Dlala Ka Yona’
– Riky Rick and Anatii jumped in and together they performed their latest single ‘FUSEG’
– And almost stealing the show, Dj Black Coffee made a grand entrance to perform ‘We Dance Again’ and threw in some dope dance moves challenging Cassper.
Production
Fireworks! Fireworks! This was on steroids , the stage design was simple and creative, the lighting design was proper and what blew every was the last edition of the show, when Cassper performed on the rising upper stage , this was what we normally see on TV and with international acts. This was the best highlight of the show.
New Music
To a musical night, we were all expecting this. Cassper handed out copies of his new album ‘Refiloe’ to everyone attending the event. The man got on stage and perfomed couple of tracks from the new album. Some of the dominant tracks that got the crowd moving was ‘Mmangwane’ , ‘War Ready’, ‘Bheki Ndaba Zakho’, ‘Cooking in Da Kitchen’ and the track of the moment ‘Mama I made It’. Good move , this was a perfect platform to showcase new material…..20 000 people under one roof!
Live Band
To a whole different approach, Cassper performed some of his own tracks and collabos with a live band, and he definitely nailed it. The entire last part of the show brought a live band together who did a masterpeice work on the instruments. What set if off was when performing ‘Jova’ , and in between he payed tribute to the fallen; Flabba, Brenda Fassie, Senzo Meyiwa, Lebo Mathosa and Wandile Bozwana.
This will be one of the shows to remember, if you weren’t there you totally missed out. Do look out for the LIVE DVD of the entire event, yet to be released. And lastly, Cassper has announced his next plan is to fill up Orlando Stadium in 2016.
To a bigger success and achievement , SA President – Jacob Zuma has released a statement to congratulate the rapper :
“We congratulate Cassper Nyovest for his tremendous success which has demonstrated the rich talent that exists within our country’s music industry especially amongst our youth. Cassper has also confirmed the enormous support for local music by our youth, which augurs well for the development of our arts, culture and heritage,” said President Zuma.
