As we all know 27 April marks the South African Freedom Day, which is a public holiday to everyone. From days of history, 27 April commemorates the day in 1994 when the first democratic election was held in Mzansi. Today we celebrate Freedom Day to mark the liberation of our country and its people from a long period of colonialism and White minority domination.
We know many of you might be undecided on what to do on this day. So we have complied a list of things to do and places you can visit on this day.
Food & Chill at Vilkakazi Street
Visit Vilakazi Street in Soweto to see some of Soweto’s heritage sites, enjoy good food, arts/ cultural activities. The vibe on Vilakazi Street is accentuated by its two most famous restaurants – Sakhumzi and Nambitha.

Fun & Play at Gold Reef City
Gold Reef City Theme Park offers ample entertainment for the brave at heart, with thrilling rides such as the Anaconda, Tower of Terror, Golden Loop and the Jozi Express roller coaster. The latter provides an excellent view over treetops and mine dumps towards the famous Joburg skyline. While some rides are only for adults and bigger (and braver!) children above a certain height, there is plenty of entertainment for younger children too – making Gold Reef City a wonderful family destination.

Bungee jumping off the Orlando Towers
The Soweto bungee jump is one of the most exciting ways to have that adrenaline rush. Based around the Orlando Towers this gives you the most awesome view of Soweto from the top of the towers. A Soweto adventure experience includes the bungee jump, a tower swing (the world’s first between two cooling towers), an internal tower swing and base jumping, all off the top of the west tower, some 100m up.

Get historical at The Apartheid Museum
The Apartheid Museum is a world-class facility providing a journey of self-exploration into the days of apartheid through mesmerising, interactive displays and film footage. This is a museum complex in Johannesburg, South Africa dedicated to illustrating apartheid and the 20th century history of South Africa.

Wild and Animals at Joburg Zoo
This is definitely a good leisure to take your family out and visit the Joburg Zoo , explore the nature and see different animal species such as vultures, eagles and storks.

The Festival will celebrate it’s 10th edition this year with a track record of over 21 000 attendees. This year’s edition will take place at MARY FITZGERALD SQUARE, NEWTOWN. Chill & Braai at Zoo Lake
This is a popular lake and public park in Johannesburg, where you get to relax and enjoy fun activities. Visitors are allowed to come with their own braai stands, food , games and drinks.
