Last week we revealed that Joburg City Theatres will screen the iconic SA film ‘Sarafina’ for free this month in celebration of Youth Month.

Well more good news; Ster-Kinekor will also be screening the film free on Youth Day (16 June) at selected cinemas. This will go across Joburg, Pretoria, Durban, Bloemfontein, P.E, Cape Town to mention a few.

Sarafina is a 1992 South African film starring Leleti Khumalo, Whoopi Goldberg, Miriam Makeba, John Kani and Tertius Meintjies. The plot centres on students involved in the Soweto Riots, in opposition to the implementation of Afrikaans as the language of instruction in schools. The film was shot in Soweto. Darrell Roodt directed, with the script by Mbongeni Ngema and William Nicholson. Leleti Khumalo reprised her role as Sarafina, with Whoopi Goldberg as Mary Masombuka and Miriam Makeba as Angelina.

Are you excited about this? Will you be checking out the film at your nearest cinema? Drop your comments below.
