A mass #FeesMustFall student protest which took place around Braamfontein streets (Johannesburg) last week has left the Puma Store with a stock loss worth up to R300‚000, after the store was looted.
The Puma Store was looted after protesting students at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) clashed with the police in the streets of Braamfontein on Monday, 10 October 2016 after they were chased away from throwing stones and damaging property on campus.
The Video below shows looters smashing the window and stealing Puma apparel including bags and sneakers:
Speaking to Sowetan Live , Senior staff member at Puma Store said: “We had to assess and do a proper stock-taking as they looted everything in the shop. The stock alone was R250‚000 and repairing broken windows and glass doors added to that amount and it was over R350‚000‚”
He also added that he didn’t believe that the looting was done by the students as they were protesting for a “good cause“‚ blaming instead opportunists and thugs who capitalised on the situation.
The store pulled together for a Forever Faster fix of damages and re-opened the doors for business.
