U.S Rapper Yasiin Bey also know as Mos Def will be permitted to leave South Africa after being arrested for violating the countryโs immigration laws earlier this year.
Mos Def was arrested in January 2016 when trying to leave South Africa with what authorities called a false passport, after reportedly overstaying his visitor’s permit. The document in question was called a “World Passport” which the country does not recognize as a legal travel document.
The Guardian reports that he has now apologized for trying to leave South Africa on a โworld passportโ:
โ[He] has unreservedly apologized to the government of South Africa. The department is satisfied with the apology [and] will withdraw the charges against him,โ the home affairs department said in a statement.
Mos Defย who has lived in Cape Town since 2013, will now be an “undesirable person” in South Africa and will not be allowed re-entry to the country, the home affairs department added.
