The much-talked about and award-winning film ‘Hidden Figures’ will finally open in South Africa this week.
Making major impact worldwide already, the film recently scooped the best ensemble in a motion picture at SAG Awards (Screen Actors Guild) and got nominated for Best Picture in Oscars 2017.
Set in 1961 Virginia, ‘Hidden Figures’ is a film based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s book, which tells a story of three African-American women who played key roles in NASA’s early space efforts.
The film shares life of mathematician Katherine Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), budding engineer Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae) and computer supervisor Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) — all three brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. The visionary trio crossed all gender and race lines to inspire generations to dream big.
Already screening in other parts of the world, ‘Hidden Figures’ arrives in local cinemas this week and here’s a trailer to get you started:
