Drama, strife, fame and family dynamics are central to Mzansi Magic’s popular reality shows. Not only have viewers been treated to one provocative show after another since the beginning of the year, but things are about to become even more on the small screen between May and October.
The channel will be serving love in the form of new relationship and dating reality shows. There’s Kheth’omthandayo*, a reality dating show with a twist. The recipe is like this – take one bachelor/bachelorette, add four suitors who match their requirements, eliminate the unwanted and at the end, choose between the two who tick the right boxes. It’s all about who’s got the best game!
Another newbie, Imfihlo*, will see people reveal their “true selves” in their pursuits of happiness – from admitting to long time crushes to asking forgiveness from their families.
Keeping with love and reality, Uthando neSthembu is sure to get tongues wagging as it explores the subject of polygamy in the 21st century.
Returning to the small screen are Idols SA, The Ranakas, Papa Penny Ahee! and the emotional conflict resolution show, Please Step In.
More DStv Originals coming your way
Series addicts are in for a treat with the return of thrilling dramas Igazi, Isithunzi and Lockdown.
Igazi held Mzansi spellbound with its intriguing storyline of a family at way, ending the season with the shrewd power-hungry Nomarussia headed to jail, rightful heir Bantu ascending the throne and magical dark forces taking control of his ruthless half-brother Jonga’s corpse.
The Isithunzi fairytale also continues, with Winnie and her “ninjas” surviving unexpected twists of fate and do battle with big bad wolves, cruel relatives, and their own shadows to discover their personal power and happy ever afters.
Tension, betrayal, and survival still drive the terse women’s prison drama, Lockdown, as the inmates battle demons within and outside the prison walls.
Two brand new dramas join the fascinating series line-up. INumber Number, inspired by the successful feature film of the same name, is about a cop that infiltrates a crime family to bring his estranged father to justice; only to find the father he has always wanted to have.
IKhaya* is the story of one man’s life-long quest to keep the secret of his two separate families living in two different cities, from being uncovered. Members from both families are also controlled by their own secrets and lies, making this a precarious house of cards ready to tumble down at any moment.
What’s a Mzansi Magic line-up without a telenovela? Sit still for the return of Ring of Lies. In its second season, the story digs deeper into the Majola and Madima families. Could there be something darker and more sinister that binds the two? In Season 2, the shocking truth about Ruth’s baby is revealed.
