It’s only four months into the year 2017, without saying, we all know the music doesn’t stop.
We have the utmost respect for every director and video-maker out there. That’s the reason why we will always showcase their work on this platform. With numerous music videos already released this year, we keep seeing see more art and creativity presented in visuals. And this piece salutes a list of only 10 music videos which were well presented. When putting together this list we considered creativity, art, story-telling and the direction as the main factors. And we’re happy to share with you 10 best music videos we have seen so far in 2017.
Cassper Nyovest – Tito Mboweni
The concept of the video is pretty simple, Cassper just wanted to make it rain and show the bling, with special appearances; Faith Nketsi ‘Queen Twerk’ , Major League DJz, Riky Rick, Nadia Nakai to mention a few. This is another masterpiece by YEAHLENZO who has previously shot Mayo (DJ Speedsta), Recipe (Moozlie), S’getit (Major League DJz), Sawce (Frank Casino) videos.
Jullian Gomes – 1000 Memories
The ingenious video was made in Italy by a renowned animation company which chose to make it in stop motion, a process of manipulating paper and/or still objects to appear as though they are moving. This kind of innovation and attention to detail encapsulates Jullian Gomes’ vision and work ethic.
The story in the 1000 Memories video follows a woman that falls in love with a man but wonders if he knows of her existence. The pair live on opposite sides of town limiting their chances of interaction. Although he is oblivious to her existence when their paths cross, the woman holds on to the hopes that one day he will notice her and in turn they could take chance at love.
Mi Casa x Yemi Alade ‘Get Through This’
The raved Maleek Berry produced collaboration which has topped charts and is charting across the globe, gets a vibrant and thought-provoking visual directed by Justin Campos and iCandi Cam. The simple concept, colours, and setup makes the video an eye-candy.
AKA – The World is Yours
Sampled from 2011’s Boom Clap Bachelors jam ‘Løb Stop Stå’ , the single delivers a laid back and mellow sound with soulful beats, not forgetting AKA who comes in with rich lyrical content and a groovy chorus.
Checking out the visuals, you will notice the clean and flair scenes which were shot in parts of Thailand . On the video AKA decided to call of his bae – Bonang Matheba who brings on the sauce to the music and we see the two get closer. This will not be the first AKA features Queen B on a music video, that’s if you remember SuperMega’s all-time signature jam ‘Jealousy’ which released years ago.
KWESTA – Ngiyaz’fela Ngawe
In the music video Kwesta gives fans a glimpse of his personal life, which includes his real life daughter Khai and long-time girlfriend Yolanda. The song features Thabsie, whose voice was chosen by Kwesta for his personal story to be told. The music video represents how love always triumphs over the turmoil – the ups and downs of life.
Khuli Chana & Cassper Nyovest – ALL HAIL
The video brings a touch of retro visuals, while reminding us of the history. The incredible video that supports ‘ALL HAIL’ is another masterpiece directed by Kyle Lewis, the same mastermind who has brought Anatii’s Fuseg music video, Riky Rick’s short film and has recently done work with Native VML for Absolut , Volkswagen colourful campaign and The Loeries. Khuli Chana and Cassper Nyovest have just released the visuals for their latest collabo ‘ALL HAIL’.
“ALL HAIL” follows the highly successful single “One Source”. This powerful industry collaboration no doubt boost the success of the One Source EP.
MissPru DJ – Phumelela
Ambitiouz Entertainment presents another story-telling music video for Miss Pru’s single titled ‘Phumelela’. The video shares stories of different characters whom all goes through the dark cloud in their lives, but they still live on with courage. The single features label mates; Emtee, Amanda Black, Saudi, Sjava , Sindi and those who left the stable A-Reece and Fifi Cooper. The video is tagged with a message: ‘Say NO To Xenophobia, Racism, Homophobia, Poverty & HIV/AIDS’.
Nasty C – Good Girls
A piece from 15 minutes-long “Bad Hair’ video trilogy is another stellar and masterpiece presentation by Kyle Lewis. The video is indeed about different girls who shows off their personalities.

A piece from 15 minutes-long “Bad Hair’ video trilogy: This is some classy and royal stuff. Featuring Telleman, the video reflects on a number of different characters and race. This another presentation by Kyle Lewis.
Big Star – Flavors ft. Reason & Zoocci Coke Dope
Big Star’s Flavors music video is portrayed in a highly colourful aesthetic that takes the interpretation of the different flavours of life to a visual presentation of flavours that we can taste such as ice cream, candy floss and milkshakes to name a few. The Flavors music video is both playful and naughty and renders a kaleidoscope of colours and textures that will leave you wanting to watch more.
