The HISTORY channel will get a refresh on Thursday, 11 May to go alongside its new content for the DStv Compact viewers, which will occur from Monday, 29 May to Friday, 23 June.
The month of May highlights and supports the new look-and-feel, which will include The Warfighters, which aired on Monday, 1 May at 19:20.
The series chronicles the United States Special Operations Forces missions in the global war on terror, as it gives viewers an inside look at the realities of war. The series is made in part by veterans, with over 90 of them participating in the production.
The series Alone returns to the channel and season three begins on Wednesday, 10 May at 21:10. HISTORY® will follow the self-documented lives of 10 individuals as they attempt to survive in the wilderness for as long as possible. The participants are isolated from each other and all human contact. The one who remains on the island the longest wins a grand prize of $500 000.
The King Who Tricked Hitler is a once-off documentary premiering on Thursday, 19 May at 19:20. It tells the story of a Romanian monarch, King Michael, who stood against Adolf Hitler and joined the allies. His actions are thought to have shortened the war by up to 200 days.
HISTORY® tells the story of what happened as King Michael fought with both Hitler and Stalin to bring about a key turning point in World War II.
Continuing each Sunday at 20:15 in May and June is the series 101 People Who Changed the 20th Century.
From Friday, 2 June, HISTORY® viewers are invited to watch JFK De-classified: Tracking Oswald every Friday at 20:15. Former CIA agent Bob Baer launches a global investigation into the assassination of President John F Kennedy and tracks the movements of Lee Harvey Oswald. Baer, who also features in the HISTORY® series Hunting Hitler, discovers a CIA document revealing that Oswald met with Soviet officials in Mexico City.
A new season of the series Forged in Fire season four starts on Monday, 5 June at 21:10 and showcases bladed weapon-makers in the country competing against one another, building everything from Viking battle axes to Samurai swords to Indian claw daggers.
Each challenge centres on fabricating a component of the overall weapon and the race to create the episode’s weapon of choice is a journey through weapon history under Mission Impossible time constraints. The winner leaves with $10 000 cash and the coveted title of ‘Forged in Fire Champion’.
HISTORY® Reveals will see two new shows premiering on the channel; The Greeks and The Liberators of Dachau. The Greeks will air on Wednesday, 14 June at 19:20 and features historians, archaeologists, actors and athletes, scientists, and artists who launch an exploration into the ancient Greeks’ journey.
The Liberators of Dachau season one will air on Monday, 25 June at 19:15 and tells the account of Holocaust survivors in a concentration camp near Munich and the Allied troops that saved their lives. In April 1945, the prisoners of Dachau were liberated and HISTORY® allows viewers to be a witness of a survivor getting to meet the United States soldiers who rescued him.
