Following the speculations that Nike is considering selling Sneakers through Amazon.com, the latest is that Nike CEO Mark Parker has confirmed (during a call with investors) on Thursday that Nike will launch a pilot program to sell limited products directly on Amazon.
The announcement came as Nike reported fourth-quarter net income of $1.0 billion, up 19 percent from the period a year ago. Revenues rose 13 percent to $4.2 billion, while the shares of Nike jumped 8.1 percent to $57.49 in after-hours trading.
“We are looking for a way to improve the Nike consumer experience on Amazon by elevating the way the brand is presented and increasing the quality of product storytelling,” said Mark Parker on a post-earnings call. “We are in the early stages but we really look forward to evaluating the results of the pilot”.
Currently, some of Nike products are already on Amazon through third-party vendors.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Nike agreed to sell to Amazon in exchange for stricter policing of counterfeits and restrictions on unsanctioned sales of its products.
In other news, Nike will be making another major step to grow sales in another partnership with Instagram – that will allow consumers to purchase Nike products through the photo app while browsing for photos.
