Cape Town native YoungstaCPT in association with Jack Lemkus unveiled the”Takkies” (Sneakers) music video, which highlights sneaker culture in the city.
The Dale Fortune-directed music video opens with a teen whose purchasing a new pair of Air Jordan 1’s at Jack Lemkus, as soon as he leaves the store, he ends up getting chased by two guys and getting robbed.
YoungstaCPT goes on to rap about the desire for a fresh pair and realizes the problems they may bring about.
When I was eight
I tried my first pair of Jordans on
As my mom, ‘Can we buy these?’
She said ‘Sorry son, I just can’t afford’
So I hustled the money cos I really wanted to own it
Boyz in the hood, they saw me with it
So they broke in the house and they stole it
It was all for the Takkies’
The Video also features the city’s biggest sneaker heads: Zaid Osman, Justin – Bubble Koppe, Calhoun Matthews, Rare & Sudden, Yaaseen Khan also Mkayfrash and Mark Mac.
Nothing resonates stronger with Capetonians than the word Takkies, and the city sneaker heads are famous for their big Air Max units, known as Bubbles.
