The latest instalment of the adidas Consortium Sneaker Exchange is here with London’s Footpatrol together with Hong Kong-based Juice to bring you two classic models, the adidas Matchcourt Mid and the Handball Top.
Both London and Hong Kong are thriving cities for city dwellers and seekers. Alongside travel and tourism comes an economy for souvenirs and memorabilia. From the sprawling street-level market stalls of Hong Kong to the traders that operate just down the street from the Footpatrol store in Soho there’s a shared appreciation for this form of trade and commerce which serves as a reference point for this release.
The Matchcourt Mid and the Handball Top are richly detailed with embroidered artwork – the first, bold and striking on the upper, the second, hidden and subtle on the inner lining. This execution highlights both Footpatrol and Juice’s respect for craftsmanship and meticulous detailing which is involved in the creation of classic souvenir jackets. Often these features elaborately stitched designs of mystical or heraldic animals, alongside a reference to the country or city of origin.
The Matchcourt Mid is a formal basketball shoe embraced by the global skateboard community. Its traditional canvas upper is embellished with a boldly coloured dragon and further embroidery.
The Handball Top has been through a similar route from indoor sports to a street icon and comes in a more low-key take of the duo, with a blue suede upper with gold embroidery. Featuring a lion paw on the heel and Tudor rose details on the tongue. The pack arrives with an extensive collection of bespoke souvenir merchandise detailed with both Footpatrol & Juice branding.
