It’s more people that seem to be enjoying smoking than having ice cream.
As crazy as it sounds, this is all due to the massive growth of the marijuana industry. A report reveals that if the government legalized it nationally it would sell more than ice cream, more than movie tickets and snacks. Dammm!
A report from Marijuana Business Daily reveals that marijuana demand estimates at $45-$50 billion, that is way too much compared to annual ice cream sales, $5.1 billion (in U.S).
As stated on Forbes;
Total recreational cannabis sales in the U.S. at this estimate would also top movie ticket sales ($11.1 billion) and snacks like Doritos, Cheetos and Funyuns ($4.9 billion.) At that rate, it wouldn’t take long to eclipse cigarette sales and even potentially beer sales.
As it is, legal recreational and medical cannabis sales in 2016 were $4.0-$4.5 billion. This beats paid music streaming services at $2.5 billion and girl scout cookies at $776 million.
Marijuana is not presently legal in any jurisdiction in South Africa (without being in possession of a permit to cultivate it for research purposes granted by the Department of Health). – News24
Earlier this year, the Western Cape High Court passed a ruling that allows for the possession, cultivation and private use of marijuana at home. And the ‘dagga couple’ (Julian Stobbs, Myrtle Clarke) are still at battle to have marijuana legalised in South Africa.
