Just when fans are excited and looking forward to Brenda Fassie’s biopic, some interesting news just came in.
Sello Chicco Twala (who back then used to manage & produce music for Mabrr) won’t let Bongani Fassie (who is the Co-Executive Producer in this biopic) to go ahead with this production. On Monday afternoon he was interviewed by Metro FM to share his side of the story. Chicco made it clear that he has rights to Brenda’s music and Bongani cannot just put forward such a huge move and not follow correct procedures. He further expressed that Bongani doesn’t know much about Brenda’s life and he will just deliver a poorly project.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Bongani expressed;
“Chicco does not own Brenda. He doesn’t own the Fassie family. He does not own any of us. We give him to God.”
“My mother Brenda has been surrounded by controversy in her life and even in her death. It is with great excitement that we have partnered with Showbizbee Film Productions to make the Brenda Fassie movie for box office release in 2018.”
And chatting to City Press‚ Chicco said his part;
“Besides my company having the rights‚ I have never been consulted by anyone. I feel disrespected and undermined‚ especially being the one who has written and produced almost 75% of the late singer’s songs.”
“Without the music I wrote and produced for Brenda, there will be no movie. This movie is not going to happen.”
Well, looking at this whole scenario, Bongani Fassie seems to be not giving an ishh. All we can do is wait and see how it goes forward.
