Rapper Rouge, Short film “New Era Sessions” was nominated in the Best Micro Budget Film Category: TV Non-Fiction at the 12th Annual South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAs) – A first for any rapper in South Africa.
Following the release of her much-anticipated debut Album “New Era Sessions” Rouge surprised fans with the release of a short film of the same name. The film features, Atandwa & Fikile Kani, the inimitable Denise Zimba and a debut appearance from Cassius Davids, depicts the story of a young woman on her journey of self-discovery. The production is an immersion into her experiences as she deals with the highs and lows of falling in love, the delight of true friendship and the bitterness of betrayal.
Andrew Mitchley, C.O.O/ Head of A&R at The David Gresham Entertainment Group said that “Never before in South Africa’s music industry have we seen visual content of this quality, executed and delivered so well”.
“People have attempted to put visual albums together before, but nothing of this calibre. The film gives an extra layer and context to the music, allowing you the listener to experience the music exactly the way Rouge intended you to,” added Mitchley
The film stands as a testament to Rouge’s dedication to her art and her creativity as an all-round artist. In an industry prone to overlooking female rappers, Rouge has created a body of work that will set the bar for all future music projects on the continent.
Rouge will be taking the film to the masses later this year as part of her much-anticipated Red Sessions Tour.
