The much-talked about local production, โInxeba (The Wound)โ will be showing again in cinemas.
This is after an appeal on the reclassification of the film to X18 was taken to court, reports TimesLive.
“Producers were appealing a decision made by the Film and Publication Board’s Appeals Tribunal, which reclassified it from 16LS to X18 – the same as hardcore porn.
The decision meant the film was immediately withdrawn from cinemas and could only be viewed at a designated adult venue (sex shop).”
Local cinemas will go back to showing the film (from Friday) after an agreement between makers of the film and the Congress of Traditional Leaders of SA agreed to drop the X out of the rating.
The controversial film #Inxeba (The Wound) has been unbanned by the Pretoria High Court and will be back on mainstream cinema screens from Friday 9 March. ๐ฌ pic.twitter.com/RrZsUOtpK2

Brimming with sex and violence, Inxeba (The Wound) is an exploration of tradition and sexuality set amid South Africaโs Xhosa culture.
Every year, the tribeโs young men are brought to the mountains of the Eastern Cape to participate in an ancient coming-of-age ritual. Xolani, a quiet and sensitive factory worker (played by openly gay musician Nakhane Tourรฉ), is assigned to guide Kwanda, a city boy from Johannesburg sent by his father to be toughened up, through this rite of passage into manhood. As Kwanda defiantly negotiates his queer identity within this masculine environment, he quickly recognizes the nature of Xolaniโs relationship with fellow guide Vija.
