The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) announced new regulations on mobile data.
South Africans have been crying their pockets out for massive spending on mobile data and since the #DataMustFall movement surfaced.
Even though we have not heard anything about cutting down data prices, here are new regulations ICASA announced:
– Consumers will be notified when their data falls below at 80%, 90% and 100% by the service provider. This is to help consumers “monitor their usage” and “control” their spending.
– Consumers will be allowed to roll over data. This means as a consumer you will no longer have to worry about losing data after month period, service providers will give you an option to roll over unused data.
– Consumers won’t be charged at out-of-bundle rates. This simply means service providers will no longer be deducting your airtime when you run out of data.
– Lastly, consumers will be allowed to transfer data to other users on the same network.
