Native Rhythms Records and Universal Recordings artiste – Jonny Joburg delivers his debut ‘City of Gold’.
The album is packed with a total of 12-tracks with features from Gigi Lamayne, Loui Lvndn, Tee-Y Mix and Tha Cutt. Johhy uses this project to prove that he has a sound he owns while telling his story. The album opens up with ‘Don’t Panic’ a perfect selection for an intro song. It’s on the same song you get a taste of Jonny Joburg’s style. One can define his sound as pure Hip-hop with funkified swing and soulful touch to it. One thing you will be stunned with is his stellar lyrical content and raps. On O.M.G and S.N.L.V, Jonny introduces that mellow R&B groove. ‘Nothing New’ is story-telling joint, he makes it clear that all this life events and industry is nothing new to him; ‘…my life is a movie and I’m the real star.’
‘City of Gold’ brings a twist of sound with mellow beats and hushed melodies. The song comes as the title track for this release and features Gigi Lamayne who delivers a starry verse to make the song a masterpiece.
‘I was walking with the dead, all I thought about were the demons in my head, hold me real tight while I show where I benn..’
‘Spalapala’ is another notable jam which is definitely a dancefloor filler (and deserves more spotlight). The song brings together afrobeats elements with warbly lines and funky beat.
Going through the tracklist, Money Phone, Intermission and Jungle are some of the hard-hitting hip-hop beats you should not skip. Besides his much-felt presence when it comes to lyrical content, Jonny Joburg also proves he is versatile and is able to put his jiggy vibe on any sound.
He has skillfully – mastered the art of illustrating imagery, laced in poetic verses that evoke emotions as he invites you to his lyrical world. The album is a solid delivery and takes listeners through many moods from a chilled scenery to dancefloor vibe.
