From sneakerheads, athletes to fashionista’s, it’s true that the sneaker culture has long been male-dominated…or call it a boys club, but however, there are a few brands, also few women who have been paving the way for the female sneaker community.
Ideally, women are associated with only being interested in ultra-feminine hobbies (like stacking up stilettoes), which leaves them overlooked in the sneaker community. Yet there is a large number and passionate base of females who are into sneakers and are collecting.
And for so long brands like PUMA has been holding it down for Women, and that goes with latest their latest Women’s exclusive PUMA Thunder Electric, which released a week ago in two colourways (White/Light Grey and White/Purple).
So to discuss this latest PUMA Thunder Electric and the dad shoe trend, we have reached out to a few ladies who are doing their own thing and have a bold interest in the sneaker culture.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Honestly, I just use whatever makes me feel comfortable and different from the rest.

I actually like the colourways – it’s different and it stands out. It reminds of the dad sneakers which are quite popular and I know many other sneaker brands are designing this type of style which is cool. I love that it comes in small sizes – I usually struggle to find sneakers that actually fit me.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl at heart, it’s the simple things that always win. My personal style is never forced, and it fits my personality perfectly. The black carefree 90’s fashion is where I draw inspiration from. Above anything, I always make sure I’m comfortable and usually in a pair of kicks/good shoes. Somebody once said to me “if his/her shoes are wack, so is he/she” and it stuck with me.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST FASHION NO-NO?
My biggest fashion no-no, with regards to women’s fashion, would have to be pumps. Followed closely by fishnet tights. I’d never be caught in either of them.

I’m all for the chunky sneaker trend when it’s done right. PUMA has done it perfectly with these sneakers, especially in terms of the silhouette, it’s not overbearing and to somebody who is a 90’s fashion enthusiast, it’s the perfect ode to that time. They don’t quite come with the “hypebeast” element that most chunky/dad sneakers have come with, which is something I appreciate. They stand out to me because they’re very wearable, more wearable than the other chunky sneakers we’ve seen eg. Balenciaga Triple S trainers. The original Thunder Spectra will always have my heart in terms of colourways, but these new colourways are just as appealing, more so the white/grey version of the shoes. I’d definitely wear them because they’re in tune with my personal style and they seem comfortable, which is true to what a “dad” sneaker should be. Throw on a white t-shirt, a good pair of thrifted jeans/trousers and a classic jacket with these babies and you’re good to go.

Eclectic
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST FASHION NO-NO?
I actually don’t have one, my style evolves as I grow, the things I used to hate before I learning to love now, style is subjective, it’s not stagnant its fluid.

they’re very on trend, with the whole dad swag that’s happening at the moment.
I find them interesting and would love to see how I can make an outfit happen.
I do think the colour-way could be expanded on more, its very plain compared to red, green, yellow and dark green pair that was first released. I enjoy the design but I wish for a different colour-way.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Simple, androgynous, street, with a hint of I don’t know what I’m doing 🤷🏽♀️ Sneaks are a 24/7 must.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST FASHION NO-NO?
The boot-leg jeans are making a comeback and it’s a hard no from me. Probably because I wore them when I was younger, and seeing those pics really make me unstable 🤧

I’m short so I’ve generally stayed away from bulky kicks, I imagine I’d look like a baby wearing its dads shoes.
The grey violet doesn’t do much for my senses. The off-white colouring of the sole gives me an “old school shoe” feeling, however, the plain grey/navy is fresh as hell and I would definitely rock a pair.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Versatile. I go from feminine to trendy. I’m a big fan of ‘less is more‘, comfort is what I look for in anything I dress. Not a wearer of layers of fabric and too much detail. Unless it’s floral. I love Simple bold. An absolute lover of dresses, both maxi and short, open back and light (no tight dresses). On an alternative side of the spectrum, I do follow some trend e.g lace tops and bras. Ripped jeans and high waisted jeans are my favourite items. Do I have a favourite colour in my wardrobe? Not really. And shoes? Flats, sneakers, heels, boots you name it.
In a nutshell, if it looks good on me, I will wear it. My confidence will give life to the chosen outfit.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST FASHION NO-NO?
Too many accessories. Plain is beautiful sometimes.
Pointy shoes. Never liked them, like ever lol.

The new Puma Thunder electric white/purple is my fave. Super comfy and chunky. They look heavy but they aren’t.
If you’re someone who doesn’t recognize brands from a distance, you’d mistaken them for Yeezy wave runner 700. I would definitely buy them, they are very versatile.
