ProKid who passed away on Wednesday night, 08 August 2018 after he suffered a severe seizure, will be laid to rest on Sunday, 19 August.
PRO will be buried at the Heroes Acre in Westpark Cemetery alongside stars including Robbie Malinga and Mandoza.
MEC for community safety Faith Mazibuko said the provincial government was negotiating with the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto campus to hold the rapper’s funeral service on campus.
The memorial service will take place on Thursday, 16 August 2018 – from 2pm to 6pm at Newtown Music Factory (Old Bassline).
The rapper suffered a severe seizure attack at a girlfriend’s flat in the Joburg CBD, reports reveal.
Prokid (real name Linda Mkhize) died in the arms of his girlfriend, Mandisa Mbanjwa, whom he has been seeing for almost a year behind his wife’s back.
Sunday World can reveal that Ayanda, Prokid’s wife, burst into tears and screamed when she saw the lifeless body of the Dankie San hit-maker on Mbanjwa’s bed in her flat in the Joburg CBD on Wednesday night.
Since his passing, local musicians took to social media to offer their condolences and pay tribute to the rapper.
Here’s what they had to say:
REST IN PEACE TO ONE OF THE GREATEST TO EVER DO IT. Gave me my break as a producer, gave me my break as an artist … There will never be another PRO. ❤️ … shocking.

PRO is a Hip Hop artist from Soweto, South Africa. He was signed to Gallo Record Company and TS Records after his independently released track ‘Soweto’ became popular. His popularity is largely because he proudly represents South African ‘Kasi’ (township) life, rapping in a mixture of vernacular and English. He has been involved in several MC battles with other South African MCs, including a much-publicised battle with 2rinity member Kaydo on YFM.
