B3nchmarq (T-Kay and P-Jay) has dropped their new album ‘We had Hope’ which is their debut and first major release since they dramatically departed from Ambitiouz Entertainment.
The album comes with 17 solid tracks showcasing new music entirely. With this entire album, the Pitori duo continues their storytelling sharing their joys, lessons and hurdles they’ve passed through.
They went easy on featured guests and only invited 3TWo1, Shawna and Jsmash – while the production is credited to Spider the Man, Ice Man Beatz and MashBeatz
The tracklist proves that the album is indeed a mood offering an ear timeless mellow hip-hop beats, a touch of trap beats with pitori-rap on few jams.
The album opens with a beautiful introduction ‘Left the City’ and song which sees the duo reflecting on how life has changed they begun the music career.
‘Baby Girl’ is a dedication to daughters and the boys pour their hearts out to their loved ones.
A listener steps into a groovy mood when they listen to Gang Gang, Bad Moolah, Bando Life, Lay Up – a definite smash to enjoy if you’re feeling the trap sound with the local flow.
B3nchmarq’s mellow sound is truly reflected in mind-easing jams like ‘Keys’ (feat. 3TWO1 & Shawna), ‘Late Night’ and ‘Blesser Life’.
‘Wifey’ is the ‘love jam’ of this album, a vibey and groovy jam that compliments a fancy and potential female lover who’s now paying attention and knows what she’s about the crown.
‘She never used to like me, Now she can’t ignore me
She said I’m tired of being your… , I could be your mommy…
Other jams a listener would enjoy include; Fashion, Big Man Ting and Very Close.
Even after the 2017 dramatic exit at Ambitiouz and the endless industry talks, the duo makes it clear to the fans that they’re on the winning lane on ‘Victory Lap.’
‘We had a situation with the label, and alotta these ni**as on Twitter thought I’m a fumble
Now they’be halaring features you know me the money I double’
They close the album with ‘We had Hope’ reflecting on years of they were trying to put their music and losing close people who became enemies
B3nchmarq indeed delivered a great project which is about everything, love, struggle and victory after all. It is the well-orchestrated production and solid lyrical content, creativity and narration of their story which makes the project a big talk.
‘We had Hope’ is a solid statement that the duo has a point of view, and assures a listener that they have defined their sound.
