Founded in Brooklyn, New York, the international AFROPUNK phenomenon is widely regarded as the world’s top destination for alternative Black culture.
Its global events reach 14 million people weekly across social media platforms. Now returning to Joburg a second time, AFROPUNK will again throw down its special blend of cutting-edge music, art and culture in an immersive and engaging experience like nowhere else.
AFROPUNK takes place on 30 and 31 December 2018 at The Constitution Hill, Johannesburg.
The line-up features international electronic and Future R&B rhythm-pioneers as well as local headliners setting the dance floor on fire in a Hip-Hop rebellion. At its heart is passion and unfettered curiosity – traits shared by the House of Martell.
“Both Martell and AFROPUNK are about re-coding the conventional,” says Martell brand manager Etienne Cassuto.
“For three centuries the House of Martell, in pursuit of its ultimate craft, has redefined the code with new blends, designs, and expressions. For over a decade, AFROPUNK has fearlessly defined culture, answering the call for a space that insists on multiculturalism and diversity.
“Together, we celebrate those who inspire to go beyond the conventional, to be curious of themselves and the world, and in doing so, defy conventions.”
It’s from this vision that Martell devised its convention-defying, mic-dropping experience for AFROPUNK 2018.
The House of Martell Experience – branded H.O.M.E, for short – complements AFROPUNK in blazing a trail for the unconventional through music, food and drinks.
Gaining entry requires just one thing: #BeCurious.
Designed as an exclusive, multi-level playground-for-adults, Martell H.O.M.E is this year’s place to be. An exclusive elevated deck provides a winning view of the main stage and pulsating action while bespoke cocktails and innovative Martell-infused foods are on offer.
Those inside the Martell H.O.M.E get to explore and share their own muso-ventures; battle it out in Martell’s authentic gaming arcade; and, make their mark alongside specially commissioned graffiti art.
For refreshment, Martell’s diverse expressions will be on offer alongside signature cocktails like the Martell Side Car and a special rendition exclusive to AFROPUNK. Plus, this year Martell H.O.M.E lays on a three-course, sit-down food-and-Martell pairing dinner.
