AKA has come out with guns blazing to shut artists who are complaining about getting no airplay. The whole airplay issue has been a topic for years – with artists blaming the gatekeepers and payola for not having their music played on the radio. Recently, popular jock and hitmaker; Heavy K posted an interesting tweet, asking the industry to stop buying airplay and blocking artists.
‘Dear SA Music Industry; May we please let the game be interesting again in 2019 & onwards, Stop buying airplay or blocking other artists from getting played! Let’s let the game be competitive again! there are so many talented artists who also deserve a chance too! Thank You.’
The tweet was then followed by Nandi Madida’s heavy reply which saw support from likes of Cassper Nyovest:
‘And people wonder why I didn’t want to follow up after Skhanda Love,it’s a dirty game bro, I was told by someone who had worked in a radio station that artists pay to get other artists blocked from getting AirPlay. My heart bleeds for artists in SA.’
Without a waste of time, AKA went onto social media to post a long video expressing how local artists need to stop complaining and start making good music. In the video, AKA can be heard saying ‘you’re not making hot shit, thats why radio is not playing you, make hot shit and you will get airplay.’
The rapper further came against the whole payola saga and say it has nothing to do with that.
