Netflix is expanding its Originals line-up with a brand new contemporary hip hop-musical rendition of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, starring Will Smith and Queen Latifah.
According to hollywoodreporter, The film is said to be set against “the urban rhythms of New York” and will follow a young waitress from the streets of Brooklyn and an aspiring musician from a wealthy family whose unconventional romance forces them to confront their life choices.
Queen Latifah appeared alongside Will Smith in the classic show ‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air’ back in May 1991. Starring on the episode called ‘Working It Out’ as a bossy actress called Marissa Redman – then six months later, Latifah made a return to the episode ‘She Ain’t Heavy’ which aired in November 1991 as a completely different character …Will’s blind date Dee Dee.
Now into 2019, the two have linked up again to produce a new Netflix flick and the film will be directed by Solvan “Slick” Naim, who is famed for directing episodes for Power and The Blacklist.
No word as to when this Netflix flick will be released – but make sure you stay tuned for more updates.
